OFF-SEASON EVENTS PAVE WAY TO
10TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Breckin Meyer and Anna Paquin in Blue State

Even though WFF's 10th Anniversary Season doesn't officially take place until October, the coming of spring marked the start of a busy time for the Festival.

In April, executive director Steve Lawson held a public conversation at Tribeca Film Festival with filmmaker Dori Berinstein about her new documentary Gotta Dance. The following month, Steve moderated the q-&-a with Frozen River director Courtney Hunt on closing night of the Berkshire International Film Festival. In early June, WFF teamed up with Images Cinema on a special screening of Marshall Lewy's political romantic comedy Blue State.

On July 4th, it was time for another collaboration - this time, with Williamstown Theatre Festival. After a two-year hiatus, the joint reading of a new screenplay resumed with Charles Evered's hilarious baseball script The Science of Hitting, directed by Steve. Eleven WTF actors played 40 roles in this rollicking fable of a dysfunctional family, an obsession with the Red Sox, and a celebrity's missing body part.

"It's been an exciting stretch," notes Lawson. "Even as planning moves ahead full tilt for our big anniversary season, more and more WFF is turning into an institution that makes its presence felt year-round, not just for two weekends in the fall."

More events are likely between now and October, including the possibility of a special invitational screening in New York.
