The Science of Hitting, a screenplay by Charles Evered, will be presented as a joint Williamstown Film Festival/Williamstown Theatre Festival event on July 4th. The reading will launch the Theatre's popular "Fridays at 3" series this summer.
Directed by Steve Lawson, The Science of Hitting is a rollicking comedy about a dysfunctional family, the missing body part of a certain celebrity, and what a passion for baseball can do. After years of estrangement, the very different O’Reilly brothers - professor Andrew, loose cannon Danny - are reunited when Danny acts on a lifelong obsession with the Red Sox and travels from Arizona to Boston to try and accomplish the impossible. It’s safe to say the "national pastime" will never be the same.
Charles Evered began his career as a WTF directing intern twenty-two years ago and went on to become an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. His play Running Funny was adapted into a film and screened during WFF’s 2007 season, and his first feature as director - Adopt a Sailor, starring Bebe Neuwirth and Peter Coyote - will premiere later this year.
The Science of Hitting - in which 12 actors from the Theatre Festival company will play 37 roles - marks the sixth such collaboration between WFF and WTF.
The reading is at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 4th in the downstairs theater of the Paresky Center on the Williams College campus. Ttickets are $5.00, and may be purchased in advance through the WTF box office at (413) 597-3400 or on the day at the door.
